In 2013 I went to my first WordCamp, in Minneapolis. My fellow attendees were friendly, curious and interested in my story. No matter where I sat, people welcomed me. And that’s what I want you to enjoy as we work together. I try to give you, dear reader, the same welcome I had when I first met the WordPress community.
Looking at the schedule of that conference, I wasn’t sure what exactly to expect. Many of the sessions’ topics seemed to be for developers or agencies and I was 53 and opening a small solo shop. Most of the attendees were much younger, and male, and my expectation from my previous experience in the tech world is that they would be introverts.
I am an extrovert. I find it easy to encourage people to talk about themselves. So to my surprise, they wanted to hear my story. I found myself stumbling over my words to explain what I offered clients and why I was doing it. These people welcomed me, and it was so very validating that I’m getting goosebumps just typing this up.
Let me welcome you to the WordPress community. As you begin your journey into using WordPress, I’d love to share with you what I know. It’s 2020, I’m sixty now, living in Missouri and embracing an online life. Soon after moving here, I started up a local WordPress MeetUp so I could find my people here, and yes, we’ve moved that online too.
Here on Websites by Jonya, I’m offering basic websites to get you started at affordable prices. I promise you that there is no end to where you can go. So we might only work together long enough to complete your project, or you might hire me on to do ongoing maintenance and upkeep. For however long, I hope you will let me help you use WordPress effectively and rewardingly. Let’s do this.
